The TowerChurch council meeting - June 2008

June 16th, 2008. By admin

Introduction

This report is an attempt to give a little insight to the matters currently under consideration and the main points addressed at the last Council meeting. It is always our prayer that we will be led by the Holy Spirit in all of our decision-making as we seek His way forward for us as a church family.

Media and Communications Team

The council members were presented with a draft logo for the church and after discussion they made suggestions as to how it might be further developed. The team will discuss and follow this up at a subsequent Council meeting.

Vision Team

The Vision Team reported on the preparations they had been making regarding the Congregational Report and special service that took place on 1st June. They have also been visiting various teams to explain the impact that Clearing Our Vision should have on them. The team have planned two evenings in June to meet with leaders and representatives of organisations, once again to encourage them to explore how CoV can and should impact on individual organisations.

Youth Team

The Youth Team will be concentrating on trying to bring our youth together through various events. They are planning to hold a Youth Weekend next year. ‘Walk the Walk’ discussions are ongoing with those involved in Glengormley Presbyterian. Council were keen to emphasise the need for proper training before embarking upon this initiative. The Youth Team have made plans to provide a summer programme for the children during the 11.00am services commencing 29th June.

Training and Action Team

There was no report from this team.

Fellowship Team

The members of this team were thanked for organising a very successful Senior Citizens’ Variety Show in May. They are considering a way to publicise our organisations to the wider community to encourage church members and others in the community to become more involved and therefore further developing the unity and fellowship within our church.

Worship and Evangelism Teams

The Worship and Evangelism Teams have not yet met but it is hoped that this will happen very soon.

Finance and Property Team

This team is currently comparing quotes for work to be completed in the Manse kitchen and have been given a budget to work within. They have addressed the lighting difficulty in the Chapel and plan to improve the lighting in Main Hall over the summer months. Redecoration of the Cunningham Room, Vestry and Wesley Room will also take place during the summer. Consideration will be given to ensure that the temperature of the toilets containing baby changing facilities is suitable and are also addressing the need to have running hot water at the basins.

The Treasurer reported that Freewill Offerings have dropped recently and that this is something he will continue to monitor closely, particularly in light of the increasing fuel and energy costs. The Council agreed that the Green Team be asked to ascertain how we might reduce our carbon footprint further which will in turn help to reduce any unnecessary expenditure in this regard.

Council agreed to make a donation of £600 towards Reach Newtownabbey.
